How did racial segregation manifest in your community when you were younger?

My folks were both born in the U.S.-born American citizens of Japanese descent and hence were uprooted and placed in WWII internment camps. They got married in Las Vegas in 1956, and mom remembers they stayed in a "black" hotel, because they certainly weren't white. What things, big or small, do you remember?
