What is 'Zionism' and some people get highly offended when this 'word' is used?

The word has been long used as a pejorative term referring to Jews, and particularly to Jews in Israel or who support it. It dates back at least a hundred years; we see it in the notorious fake doent "Protocols of the Elders of Zion."
