Is their a program that can scan Frostwire files before/during the download to keep my computer safe?

I just frostwire and I was wondering if their was a program that is available that will scan your downloads to make sure you dont download a computer crashing virus. A friend of mine downloaded a program off of limewire and when he went to use it his entire computer crashed, and I haven't used frostwire or limewire before and I was just curious because I really don't want my computer to go on the fritz.
