Elder scrolls oblivion help plz?

stuck on a mission where u have to translate four inscriptions on a wall to activate this magic pillar, i have done that and i have fired my magic all four kinds at the pillar, nothing is happening, does anyone know wat i am supposed to be doing im stuck here for hours now, plz help its so annoying
